Recipe Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup flour
- 2 cups breadcrumbs
- 8 pieces mozzarella string cheese
- Oil
- Salt & Pepper (to taste)
- 1 cup canned tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 6 leaves basil (cut into thin strips)
Recipe Directions
- Mix eggs well in a bowl
- Place bread crumbs on a bowl and flour on another
- Roll each cheese stick in flour, then dip in the egg, then thoroughly coat with breadcrumbs
- Reserve sticks in the freezer for 5 mins
- Prepare the Tomato-Basil Sauce: Combine tomato sauce and garlic powder and heat until warmed through, then add basil and mix well.
- Heat about an inch of oil in a deep skillet
- Carefully drop each cheese stick in the hot oil and fry until golden brown (to avoid having cheese bubble out through the breading the secret is to have the sticks very cold and the oil very hot and do a quick in/out)
- Serve with Tomato-Basil Sauce and enjoy ;)
